ESAB’s state-of-the-art automated welding technologies

sausis 12, 2018

ESAB Welding & Cutting showcased live and static demonstrations and display innovative equipment for automated welding at Schweissen & Schneiden, which took place in Düsseldorf, Germany. Display areas included technical experts answering visitor questions about ESAB's ICE™ SAW technology, strip cladding, gantry systems, tractors and friction stir welding.

Mechanised Welding

ESAB's patented ICE™ (Integrated Cold Electrode) technology introduces a cold electrode into a twin-wire Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process, increasing deposition rates by up to 50 percent over standard twin-wire SAW. The live demonstration at Schweissen & Schneiden featured ESAB's Gantrac 300 gantry system, the Aristo® 1000 AC/DC power source and BlockPacs of OK 10.62 flux. Another automated welding demonstration featured ESAB's OK Band series of 60 mm stainless steel strip and strip cladding system. Strip cladding provides a flexible and economical way of depositing a corrosion-resistant protective layer of nickel, stainless steel or high-alloy metal on mild or low-alloy steel.

ESAB flexible modular gantry system offer a totally integrated solution that includes welding process, manipulator movement and control of third axis products like the ESAB roller beds or positioners. ESAB's modular design concept allows total customisation using standard components. A large selection of components are available for a custom solution, and users can choose from a variety of welding heads for SAW, GMAW and GTAW.

Tractors and Welding Heads

ESAB offers a full line of tractors to automate GMAW welding, including the compact, battery-driven Miggytrac and the robust Railtrac, which is constructed with aluminum and stainless steel to minimise problems associated with harsh environments. Railtrac uses 42V AC power from the power source or a battery driven with standard Makita®18 V system. It can work in horizontal and vertical applications and can be programmed for a weave. Both systems connect to most ESAB wire feeders and torches with no major modification.

For mechanised single or twin wire SAW and GMAW of long seams in the horizontal position, ESAB offers the A2 Multitrac with PEK process controller. The built-in feed unit provides an even, stable wire feed speed while four-wheel drive ensures an accurate travel speed. A digital control panel allows users to pre-set and accurately control welding parameters.

Welding & Cutting is a recognised leader in the welding and cutting industry. From time-honored processes in welding and cutting to revolutionary technologies in mechanised cutting and automation, ESAB's filler metals, equipment, and accessories bring solutions to customers around the globe.
